Machine Operators

Machine Operator – Offshore Grouting Operations

Machine Operators play a critical role in subsea and offshore construction projects such as jacket foundations, wind turbine installations, and pipeline supports. Their work ensures structural integrity by delivering high-quality grout used to fill annuli or secure components in challenging, high-pressure marine environments.

Primary Responsibilities

Pre-Mixing Setup
• Inspect and prepare grouting equipment:
 – Set up and check high-shear grout mixers, holding tanks (agitators), and grout pumps
 – Inspect water supply systems, additive dispensers, and pressure control systems
• Prepare materials:
 – Ensure availability of offshore-approved materials (cement, additives, pre-blended grout)
 – Verify correct storage conditions, including temperature and moisture control

Grout Mixing Operations
• Accurate batch preparation:
 – Mix grout in line with approved offshore mix designs
 – Follow specified water-to-cement ratios and add chemical admixtures (e.g. retarders, anti-washout agents)
• Quality control during mixing:
 – Monitor grout density, viscosity, and temperature
 – Conduct flow cone or Marsh cone tests if required
 – Keep grout continuously agitated to prevent segregation

Coordination with Injection Team
• Supply mixed grout efficiently:
 – Ensure continuous grout feed to injection systems
 – Monitor pressure levels and report any anomalies to the supervisor
• Real-time adjustment:
 – Modify batches on instruction from grouting supervisors as needed during live operations

Maintenance and Equipment Handling
• Routine maintenance:
 – Carry out daily maintenance on mixers, pumps, valves, and tanks
• Cleaning:
 – Clean equipment after operations to prevent cross-contamination or blockages
• Troubleshooting:
 – Assist with diagnosis and resolution of mechanical or operational issues

Safety and Compliance
• Follow offshore HSE protocols:
 – Adhere to safety regulations including PPE use, hazardous material handling, and confined space procedures
 – Participate in toolbox talks, safety drills, and risk assessments
• Environmental responsibility:
 – Prevent spills and ensure correct disposal of residual grout according to environmental guidelines

Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain logs and batch records:
 – Track mix times, volumes, mix ratios, and operational parameters
 – Log any incidents, delays, or anomalies for QA/QC and offshore management reporting

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Offshore or marine grouting experience preferred
• Familiarity with grout properties and mixing systems
• Ability to perform under pressure in offshore environments and shift-based operations
• Certifications:
 – BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training with HUET)
 – Offshore OGUK Medical Certificate
 – H2S Awareness (if applicable)
