The Mechanical Fitter is a specialised technician responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment used in offshore grouting operations. This includes grout mixers, agitators, pumps, valves, and pressure systems critical to subsea and platform-based construction projects—such as wind turbine foundations, jackets, or oil & gas platforms.
Equipment Installation & Setup
• Assemble and install mechanical grouting systems, including:
– High-shear mixers
– Agitators and holding tanks
– High- and low-pressure grout pumps
– Valves, hoses, pressure relief systems
• Assist in commissioning of grouting spread under the supervision of the grouting supervisor or engineering team
• Ensure equipment alignment, flange torqueing, and seal integrity as per offshore standards
Maintenance and Inspection
• Conduct preventive maintenance:
– Lubricate bearings, replace worn seals, belts, and gaskets
– Check for vibration, abnormal noise, or wear in mixers and pumps
• Perform daily inspections:
– Check fluid levels, pressures, and temperatures of operating units
– Inspect hoses, clamps, and pipe fittings for leaks or damage
• Maintain spare parts inventory and manage tool kits efficiently
Fault Diagnosis and Repair
• Troubleshoot mechanical faults in real time:
– Diagnose issues in pumps, drive systems, or rotating components
– Conduct emergency repairs or part replacements to minimise downtime
• Collaborate with electrical technicians where problems relate to sensors, starters, or control panels
Support to Grouting Operations
• Remain on standby during live grouting operations to ensure uninterrupted mechanical system performance
• React quickly to breakdowns or flow issues during pressure grouting
• Coordinate with the grouting supervisor and control room for any performance deviations
Safety and Compliance
• Follow offshore safety protocols at all times, including:
– Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work regulations
• Wear appropriate PPE and participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings
• Ensure compliance with OEM manuals, client specifications, and regulatory standards
Documentation and Reporting
• Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance
• Report consumables used, parts replaced, and unresolved issues to the mechanical supervisor
• Contribute to shift handover documentation
• Technical Diploma or NVQ in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting, or a related trade
• Minimum 3–5 years of offshore or heavy industrial mechanical fitting experience
• Strong understanding of:
– Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
– Rotating machinery and equipment
– Pipe fitting and mechanical alignment
• BOSIET / FOET
• Offshore OGUK Medical Certificate
• H2S Awareness (if applicable)
• Confined Space Entry & Working at Heights (site-specific)
