The Grouting QA/QC Technician is responsible for testing, monitoring, and verifying the quality of grout used in offshore construction projects, such as monopile foundations, jacket grouting, riser clamps, and pipeline supports. This role ensures that the grout’s properties meet design and specification requirements, supporting safe and durable installations in harsh marine environments.
Pre-Operation Preparation
• Set up the offshore lab with necessary tools, materials, and test equipment, including:
– Flow cone, Marsh cone, viscometers
– Cube moulds for compressive strength testing
– Scales, mixers, beakers, and timers
• Verify calibration of equipment
• Ensure testing materials (e.g. water, mould release, labels) are properly stored and ready
Sampling and Testing of Grout
• Collect grout samples during live operations as per the approved inspection and test plan (ITP)
• Perform real-time tests on fresh grout, including:
– Flow cone (fluidity/workability)
– Bleed test (water separation)
– Temperature and density measurements
– Initial set time (when required)
• Prepare and cure cube samples for compressive strength testing (e.g. at 24 hours, 7 days, and 28 days)
Documentation and Record-Keeping
• Log all test results in QA/QC forms, lab sheets, and digital systems
• Label each cube sample with batch number, location, time, and testing schedule
• Assist the QA/QC or Grouting Engineer in compiling daily logs and final grouting reports
Quality Assurance Support
• Ensure grout complies with specifications (e.g. EN 447, DNV-ST-F119, API RP standards)
• Immediately report non-conformances or abnormal test results
• Support investigations of segregation, extended set times, or insufficient strength gain
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance
• Follow offshore HSE protocols:
– Use appropriate PPE and handle materials safely
– Attend toolbox talks and comply with COSHH standards
• Dispose of test residue, grout waste, and chemicals in accordance with environmental guidelines
• 2–5 years in materials testing, preferably with offshore or cementitious grouting experience
• Strong understanding of cementitious grout behaviour
• Familiarity with EN and ASTM testing standards and procedures
• Offshore OGUK Medical Certificate
• BOSIET / FOET
• H2S Awareness (site-dependent)
• High attention to detail
• Accurate record-keeping
• Ability to work under pressure in offshore environments
